Children go through different phases of development. In the first 3-5 months they are in oral phase. Driven by hunger. After this comes the mouthing phase where they try to explore their surrounding objects with their mouth. Then as they start walking they become more independent. By the time they reach 3 years they have developed a sense of self. Ego centric behaviour is quite common in this age group. They discover the power of able to say no to everything. They resist any sort of commands and instructions. But this phase is temporary. Be patient and do not try to force things with her. Let her explore and enjoy her new found so-called independence. Be watchful, as this is the time when maximum number of accidents happen to the toddlers. Keep the bathroom /toilet doors shut, if possible do not store water in buckets without a secure lid as toddlers can drown while leaning into the buckets. Make sure the electrical switches are child proof and the medicines are kept far away from children's reach.
Next Steps
restrict screen time (tv, laptop, ipad phones ) to 30-40mins /day. allow watchful exploration of surroundings. make bed time lighting and sounds to a minimum so that the child gets atleast 8-10 hours of sleep. avoid giving excessive high sugar foods and beverages at bedtime.
