At age 18 years and with a serum creatinine hovering around 2 (eGFR of 49 mL/min/1.73 m2), approximate urine albumin creatinine ratio of 50 mg/g and you being a male, the Kidney Failure Risk Equation (www. CKDpcrisk.org) gives an estimated risk of you reaching end-stage requiring dialysis or transplant is 3 to 5%. You can still have your kidneys functioning reasonably well beyond that if you adhere to the following: Make sure you maintain BP at around 130/80 mm Hg, avoid taking drugs which can further damage your kidneys like pain killers, hydrate adequately and be on periodic follow-up with your nephrologist. You have been started on SEPTRAN for UTI prophylaxis (prevention) probably. Continue for the prescribed duration.
Next Steps
Follow the preventive measures as mentioned above
Health Tips
Report to your doctor immediately if you have decreased urine output, swelling of the legs and face, difficulty in breathing, etc.
