My niece has 7mm hole in heart when she is 8 months old. Doctor suggested for recheck after 6 months. Now she is 23 months old. Till now they haven't shown to any doctor. Is it necessary to go for recheck? And if the hole is still present can we observe any symptoms in her?

yes, u need to see whether child is having recurrent fast breathing, retractions, failure to gain weight, height and delay in development. More than 5mm is medium size and one more important thing is location of the hole in heart to see whether there can be spontaneous closure. Follow up with echo is necessary every 6 months
