Hole below backbone

Asked for Male, 50 Years

My father has a Hole below backbone since 3 months and being treated by Phenol injection once in PGIMS Rohtak last month but now doctor said that surgery is required. They didn't tell the name of disease and I doubt that it may be major problem. Kindly suggest the further for better.
