High Platelet Count
My mother have a history of high platelet count from the last year. Platelet count 547 Sep 2019 629 June 2020 650 Aug 2020 Treatment (15days) Hydroxyurea 500mg Ecosprin Now platelet count is 635 after 20 days of having medication. Had done with many test Iron study with ferritin, uric acid , peripheral smear, LDH All reports r fine except LDH LDH is 315 So what should be the treatment??? Is it a right treatment ?? An increasing LDH is problematic?? Please give me some advice. Thanks in advance

She is probably having Essential Thrombocytosis. Usually this problem is incidentally detected on routine tests. No major intervention required unless platelets very high like more than 10 lakh or patient has thrombosis. Treatment is fine except note for bleeding episodes. In future it may transform to myelofibrosis.

Looks like essential thromocytosis. Need additional investigation like jak2 test. Usually we shall give hydroxyurea if platelet count is more 10 lakh. But already started means, continue the same. LDH elevation is not significant. Continue aspirin also. Usually this conditions will not produce any major problem to patients
