Hi,my mother is experiencing twitching on the right side of the face like eye,cheek and lips.Is it hemifacial spasm or is it a temporary one. What might me the cause?.she is diabetic and has BP.

This could be hemifacial spasm if her twitches are persistent. Hemifacial spasm is usually due to compression of the facial nerve near the brain stem by a tortuous blood vessel loop. Very rarely, it may be secondary to a tumor near the brainstem. She should consult a Neurosurgeon or a Neurologist, to rule out other mimics (blepharospasm/tics/dystonias/ and who may recommend an MRI of the brain for her depending on the clinical diagnosis.
