Hair loss- Female patterned hair loss

I have been facing hair loss issues since a few months. I visited a doctor who said I may be facing female pattern hair loss problem. He prescribed me FINAST 5 mg 1 tablet everyday. I searched about this drug and found out that it's more suitable medicine for men rather woman and looking at the side effects I am in doubt if I should take this medicine. Please suggest your view. Is it safe to take Finast 5 mg for women?
