Green poop
Hello doctors I am a new mother of 5 month old. My baby is on mix feed since 4th month. I used to feed him similac earlier (270ml/day). Recently I switched to similac advance stage 1(270ml/day). I noticed that almost after every feed he is passing green colored poop and when I breastfeed him,he passes yellow colored poop. He has no fever,no gas, no discomfort. His lowest birthweight 2.7 kg and current birth weight 5.8kg. Earlier my paed prescribed econorm for 3 days. Not much improvement. The poop is bright green to tan green, seedy and mucous. Frequency is 2-3 times in a day. Are these transition stools??shall I change the formula??. Please help

I understand your concerns. Green stools are most often due to increased gastrocolic reflux. Formula feeds do sometimes results in green stools but mucoid stools is a concern. You can continue probiotics for another three days. I would recommend to stop formula feeds and give him breast milk for 6 months as American academy of pediatrics recommends. When you introduce new feeds that baby’s gut takes time to get primed to it. So passing 2 to 3 times a day is not alarming. Weight gain is also optimal.
Next Steps
If symptoms persists after these measures , please write back and you might need to add drugs to the baby.
Health Tips
Stop formula feeds Exclusive breast feeding Vitamin D drops.
