A feeling of heaviness and being unable to eat that comes on only during meals and settles within about 20 minutes can have several causes. From an ENT point of view it may relate to swallowing or throat/esophageal issues, but symptoms tied specifically to eating can also involve the stomach (e.g. early fullness, reflux) or, if true dizziness is present, blood pressure or other factors. This pattern needs an in-person assessment rather than an online diagnosis.
Next Steps
Please see a doctor in person for an evaluation. An ENT consultation can assess the throat and swallowing, and if the difficulty is with food going down, an endoscopy may be advised. If the dizziness is prominent, a physician should also check blood pressure and general causes. Note down exactly what you feel, what foods trigger it, and whether there is any pain, choking or weight loss to share at the visit.
Health Tips
In the meantime, eat slowly in small amounts, sit upright while eating, and avoid very large, dry or hurried meals. Please seek prompt medical review if you develop any difficulty swallowing solids, food sticking, chest pain, vomiting, fainting or unexplained weight loss.
