Hi.. The control you are explaining is in your mind and typically it is formed at an early age. The dual thought process also has roots in a contradictory parenting style/pattern of parents or early childhood caregivers. But it is not absolute, everything learnt can be unlearned with consistent and deliberate efforts. Remember, no parenting is perfect, no one receive a laboratory controlled childhood conditions. We are all formed out of our securities and insecurities. All the positive and all the negative will contribute to what you become later in life. But the ultimate control always lie within you and not outside or with other people. We are the makers of our own destiny. Always remember that.

Hello there. It’s understandable how difficult this situation is for you. Therapy can help you process your thoughts and feelings, help you deal with them, decision making and achieve your goals.
I feel that the situation that you are in can be the fallout of your childhood upbringing, among other possibilities. In many cases in which a person who grew up in an environment of parental / family 'control' (both overt and covert), the individual concerned ends up in confusions of the kind that you are explaining. The best for you, I think, would be to consult a psychologist who will be able to assess your issues and guide you in finding solutions.
