Feeding Issues
We have a 55 day baby. He is currently on mixed feed. we are currently feeding him formula using palada every 4 hrs, remaining time he latches. The problem we have is  feeding using palada is getting difficult since he moves his leg and arms too much and tries to take whole milk which results in frequent choking. we tried earlier using bottle, but within 2 days he got so much addicted to bottle that he started refusing breasts. Would like to have suggestions here.

If he is latching properly slowly make it full transition to breast feeding. Paladai or spoon can be used for expressed breast milk since you are avoiding bottles. But moving their legs and hands vigorously is also common. You need to properly place the baby in such a way that he is inclined position not fully flat as there are chances of aspiration. I would suggest you to breastfeed the baby as the intake of milk will also increase in coming months which you will find it difficult to use paladai .

Baby is 55 days old and on mixed feeding. You can stop top feed and try exclusive breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding is sufficient if: 1. Baby is gaining weight adequately 2. Passing urine 5-6 times per day 3. Sleeping for 1-1.5 hours after feed If above criteria are met, no need for top feed. If criteria are not met, you may give top feed by spoon. Avoid bottle feeding.

At 55 days, your baby moving around during paladai feeds is normal, babies this age get much more active and distractible. The choking usually happens when milk flows faster than he can manage while he is wriggling. Bottle refusal of the breast is also common once a baby gets used to a faster, easier flow. It is not that he is rejecting you.
Next Steps
Hold him semi upright and feed slowly from the paladai only when he is calm, pausing often so he can swallow comfortably. If you keep using the bottle, pick a slow flow nipple and offer the breast first when he is calmest and hungriest, such as right after waking.
Health Tips
See your paediatrician soon if he keeps choking or coughing during feeds, or if his weight gain seems slow.
