Favipiravir dose
My father is tested COVID +ve on 13/02/22 (CT 28). Symptoms include mild body ache, itchy throat. He has hypertension and diabetes.
I need to check the dose of favipiravir (FAViJACK 400mg)? Should he be taking 4 tabs twice a day (8 tabs/1d) and then continue with 4 tabs per day for 5 days ?

This medicine is still in phase 2 trial for finding dose.
Two schedules are being tested;
a) Flavipiravir 1000 mg BID for one day
Followed by 400 mg BID for 4 days.
b) Flavipiravir 1200 mg BID for one day.
Followed by 800 mg BID for 4 days.
Final verdict is not yet out.
But FDA had approved it for clinical use.
Personally I would not recommend it for my patients. I will wait for final verdict.
