Eye problem in 6 yr old
My son who is 6 years currently has minus power of -2sph & .5 cyl in right and -1.75 sph & .5 cyl in left eye. He has been wearing specs since he was 4. recently we have seen him having some discomfort and he has been touching and rubbing his eyes. He cant explain if he has dry eyes. Our opthal has recommended LOC tears thrice a day for 3 months. Pl advice if it is safe to use on a kid as we do not clearly know if it is dryness only. Thanks!

Your child is myopic &  seeing his age his power is on higher side, maximum increase in power takes place between 13 yrs to 21 yrs because during this period maximum growth  of body take place. You will have to be cautious& there must be annual checkup. You will have to balanced diet during this period.  Dryness these days is common due to overuse of smartphone or TV & you should use some good lubricating eye drops 4-5/times regularly (genteal eye drops), with regards

Hello. I think he has allergic conjunctivitis. 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. B. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. C. Use antiallergic eyedrop like olopat eyedrop twice daily d. Lubricating eyedrop like flogel thrice daily e. Use mild steroid like flurisone in pulse dose in severe allergy this will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to. This is a provisional diagnosis. Consult your ophthalmologist for detailed examination.
