Experiencing Thyroid Symptoms
Hi, I'm 24 year old married female. Right from the time I started working from 2014 onwards I have been experiencing the below problems: 1. Weight gain from 49 to 57 kilos just in 7 months, and 57 to 65 in another 9 months and then to 72 kilos after marriage that is in another one half years. Now I'm currently 72 kilos, I gained all this weight from 49 to 72 just in 4 years, though I eat always the same. 2. Irregular periods since I started working in night shifts. 3. Frequent Hair loss and thinning of hair, though I have tried good shampoos and hair oil. 4.Double chin and slightly bulgy neck(I thought this was just fat around neck and chin) I'm having all these above issues and I realised it could be thyroid symptoms only today after reading an article in Facebook. Now I'm worried, I want to if I may be having any chance of thyroid problem? What I need to do Now? And what are the do's and donts? I'm also planning to have a baby soon, will this stop me from getting pregnant.Needed help

Hello, At the outset I would like to express my gratitude towards your excellent observation of your symptoms and putting them in the order of chronology. Would like to bring the following points to your kind consideration. Hypothyroidism is a very common condition affecting 1 in 2 women. Some authors therefore suggest not to call it a disease. It usually manifests as a slowing in physical activity but may be asymptomatic. The following are symptoms of hypothyroidism: Fatigue, lethargy Weight gain despite decreased appetite. Cold intolerance Dry skin, decreased perspiration Hair loss Sleepiness Muscle pain, joint pain, weakness in the extremities Forgetfulness, inability to concentrate Constipation Menstrual disturbances Paresthesia- tingling, numbness Fullness in the throat, hoarseness, etc. A few of the symptoms described  by you fall in the aforementioned list. However, these symptoms are neither sensitive nor specific to Hypothyroidism. To confirm the diagnosis, we will have to get a Thyroid test done- TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) Assay and Free T4 No wonder, if the test is negative. Even if it is positive, you just have to take a Thyroxine tablet once a day. That’s it. So, just don’t be anxious. God bless you.
Next Steps
Get TSH and Free T4 done and we shall review.
Health Tips
Focus your meals around veggies, fruits, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. And to keep your energy levels stable, you can eat small meals throughout the day. Exercise (Walking, Aerobic, light weight lifting, Yoga) can boost energy, decrease stress, and help you maintain a healthy weight. Combat stress- take time out for yourself. Indulge daily in a 5-minute session of deep breathing or meditation. Establish a sleep schedule and stick to it- Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day—including weekends.
