Entamoeba Histolytica and Metronidazole
Presence of E. Histolytica was shown on my initial stool exam dated April 30. I was then prescribed by an internist of Metronidazole 500 mg tab for 7 days. On the May 5, repeat stool exam has turned out negative (NO OVA AND PARASITES SEEN). Does this guarantee that the pathogen is out of my system? Should I still be worried on other parts - the liver or the brain ? Should I stop my medication now? The side effects are as just bad as the symptoms.

Hello there. I can understand your concern. I cannot guarantee but yes, it's pretty much a confirmation that the pathogen is out of your system. You can stop the medicines if you have taken for 7 days . Do write to us if you have any more questions. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain. Bangalore.
