What is Acceptance? Acceptance, in terms of mental health, is when you simple allow your emotions and thoughts to be. You don't judge them or label them as "bad" or "negative". Sometimes, with anxiety, you might feel a tightness in your chest and you would normally describe that as "painful" instead, try to explain how it feels like "heavy". What is Mindfulness? Mindfulness and acceptance go hand in hand in many ways. Mindfulness is used to stay in the moment so that you can observe those anxious feelings. “I am noticing that I feel anxious(mindfulness). I don't have to like it but I accept that it is there.(acceptance). 2 Things to Try: One issue that comes up with anxiety is spiraling thoughts. When your thoughts start to get out of control and just keep rolling and getting bigger and bigger and scarier, it pulls you out of the present moment (mindfulness). Instead of letting your thoughts spiral, try this: Tell yourself (or your partner or friend), “I’m really stressed about money right now. But I can’t do anything about it over the weekend or until I can sit down with my budget later. I’m going to put these thoughts away until I can focus on it and figure it out." When you are experiencing anxiety, pause for a moment and instead of focusing on the tightening in your chest, the racing thoughts etc...pay attention to your senses. What can you smell right now? What are you hearing? What are you touching? Don't judge anything, just feel it and it can help ground you in the here and now. These techniques might seem simple but they do work. And they do take practice.

Hi You are in a situation where you are taking care of your baby and you are living in Chennai where you don’t have relatives. Your husband often travels for work and you are not comfortable with the idea of living alone. Based on what you have mentioned it seems like you are afraid of being lonely. It seems like you want some kind of emotional support. You are in a situation where you have to cope with your husband travelling often and you are alone at home with the baby. You are often thinking about the future. It will be good if you can live in the present and enjoy spending time with your baby. To feel better I suggest that you and your husband consult a psychologist for counselling sessions. A psychologist will guide you and your husband on how you can handle the situation that you are in. With a psychologist you can talk about your job and the kind of relationship you have with your husband. If you are not able to convince your husband you can do counselling sessions and explain about the situation that you are in. Try to keep your mind relaxed. Counselling sessions will help you.

Many people are slowly waking up to the reality that life, in its all positives and negatives, is to be lived with a feeling of wellness. Yes, it is "feeling" which is a mind- function. If we succeed in feeling that wellness even in the most challenging situations, we succeed in living a peaceful life. And it is possible too, with a little change in the way we view our problems. I live in Mumbai and know many working people who are facing similar situations. With that kind of an experience, I can assure you that there are solutions to the childrearing issues that you are facing. The larger issue is how both of you are going to handle it together. For that both of you need to correct your perceptions of the situation, but seem to be unable to do that. This makes me suggest both of you to approach an experienced psychologist. With her/his help, it is very likely that you will find practical solutions to the family discord that you are in right now. The childrearing matter will get resolved after that.
Next Steps
Please consult an experienced psychologist.

Hi... Try to grasp this, there is a global economic downturn and the next 6 months are estimated to be most turbulent for India. Keeping employments intact is going to be a challenge. Recent rise in cases of new omicron BF. 7 variant in certain countries has added on to the global economic crisis. Whenever there is such a situation the marital, family, and personal life of common people is going to be greatly impacted. I understand that there might be issues already existing in your marriage but the present environment is also straining it a lot. I would suggest to give yourself some time and decide what is non negotiable for you. You have to decide between your ability to raise your child without doing a full-time job or raising your child away from you after some time. As a clinical person I must tell you that initial 3 years of a child's life are very important. The hardware is getting prepared. So you have to choose wisely. After 3 years of age child's raising is going to become relatively more manageable. But it is a long term task. I would also suggest that both of you need to make a rational analysis of both of your's financial situation. Whose employment is relatively more stable, reliable, and earning more money to support your family to sustain in the present economic crisis. You both need to work as a unit because you both want your kid to have a good life. You can choose where your marriage is leading may after giving it sometime and letting this economic stressor get better. My suggestion is to focus on keeping your and your family's physical and mental health in a good shape till 2025 and post that the world economic and security scenario is going to get much better. Remember, tuff times do not last, tuff people do.
