Edema In both feets from ankle.
Sir My mother is facing swelling of feets if she walks or climb stairs. This problem has been since 25 years but then doctors were treating as thyroid issue and given epsom salt to use in food. Post that she had uterus removed. But sometimes this swelling use to happen and normal within a day or two. Last year as per Doctors advice Color Doppler for veins,LFT ,KFT, cardiology opinion for heart disease everything was checked but every reports came normal. Some doctor advice this is due to sedentary.from 2-3 months she is facing swelling in feets very often. Presently according to a good doctor she is having weak vascular system in feet. I don't know where to approach pls help as she is facing pain in ankle length and fingers of feet. Note she has DM past 7 years and under control with metformin. Pls help or guide what to do.

Most Likely Causes: 1. Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) • Weak or leaky veins in legs → blood pools in lower legs • Worse with standing/walking • Causes swelling, aching, heaviness, sometimes skin changes • Often progressive with age 2. Diabetic Microvascular Disease • Diabetes affects small blood vessels and nerves in the feet • Can cause swelling, burning, pain, and slow circulation 3. Sedentary Lifestyle or Muscle Weakness • Calf muscles are “pumps” for blood return • If she’s inactive, blood and fluid can pool in the legs • Walking worsens this if vascular tone is poor Supportive Management: Compression Stockings • Improves circulation • Must be worn through the day — not while sleeping Leg Elevation • Elevate legs above heart level for 20 mins, 2–3 times daily • Helps reduce swelling and pressure Mild walking / physiotherapy • Calf pumping exercises — improves venous return • Avoid sitting with legs hanging for long Also change her diet to a Diabetic Diet
