Duration of Pain in pleural tuberculosis
Hi, I was diagnosed with tuberculosis two months back when I had high fever and extreme pain in the chest. I underwent x ray, diagnostic fluid aspiration and CT. I started on the medication and my fever subsided. My pain also reduced in intensity. However, I still have pain in every breath. Is this normal to have pain even after 2.5 months? I saw the doctor on my last monthly visit and he said it happens when fluid is drying up. But I just want to understand if this much pain is normal at this point during the treatment! Any idea when I can expect it to go? I am a fitness freak and have always eaten well and healthy and have never smoked in life. In fact I am malnourished in no way.  Is tb purely infection based? Any idea how I can prevent such diseases in future despite all that I had been doing already because this problem has been a major speed brake. Thanks

Hello ! As rightly told by your physician, there is increased chance of pain as the fluid gets reduced and the two surfaces of the pleura (which were until now separated by the fluid) appose each other . As the infection gets healed this pain will also subsequently reduce . Do complete the (minimum) 6 months course of anti- tb drugs.  Tb spreads by droplet infection . Not everyone who gets exposed to tb bacteria gets the infection.  So the most important host factor is your immunity and the environment you live in . Eat healthy . Avoid areas of overcrowding.
