Does instruments used ent transmit hiv
Hello doctor since 2days onwards I am experiencing Kindof watery n very light blood discharge from both my ears . Am very much panic to visit local ent clinics because about instruments such as otoscope or any other instruments which are insurted into ears can transmit hiv or not because this machines are mostly used for all the patients plz respond

Not possible with otoscope unless it’s having blood on it at the Time of examination That is also having very very less chances

HIV can only be transmitted by exchange of bodily fluids. All instruments used in dental and ENT clinics are either autoclaved or gas sterilised  or in my case ultrasonically cleaned and then sterilised in a dry formalin chamber. For convenience's sake I use disposable wooden tongue depressors to examine mouth to save time and effort in sterilising tongue depressors.

In general the instruments are sanitized each time before examining each ear.
