Diabetes medicine for nursing mothers
Hi, I was on Glucoryl M1 in morning and Metformin 500 in evening, then during pregnancy i was put on insulin novorapid thrice daily and levemir for night plus metformin 500 twice a day. Last dosage being 24,16,16 for novorapid and 16 units of levemir at 33.5 weeks of pregnancy and i delivered baby prematurely. Now post pregnancy i am still on insulin (its been 5 months and baby is on ebf) with dosage of novarapid(4,4,4) and levemir(4) and metformin 850 twice a day. Could you plz suggest if i can be put on oral medication only. Thanks in Advance.

Metformin and insulin needs to be given as long as you are breastfeeding the baby. Only once that stops can other oral medicines be restarted. However looking at your current dosage, what can be tried is to give premix insulin so that the number of injections reduce considerably.
