Why does depletion of upper layer of teeth occur. What should we do if our teeth start becoming slightly yellowish due to loss of enamel. Is it due to some faulty brushing style or some nutritional factor?

Enamel depletion is a different issue compared to yellowing of teeth. If it’s just yellowing then reason can be tea drinking, smoking or any other habits.
Depletion of enamel can happen because of regular acidity, hard forcedful brushing, or malocclusion.

Depletion of enamel can be due to wearing away of teeth (attrition) which usually occurs with old age. When it happens in young adults the causes can be due to improper bite ( Malaligned teeth "malocclusion") , aggressive brushing force, para functional habits ( teeth clenching at night) or erosion ( chemical wear due to acidic substance intake ) .
Next Steps
Do get your teeth checked by a dentist for the above mentioned causes.
