Hi, My friend is overweight and since 12 years his neck all around the area of neck has become very dark in comparison to his body colour - very black around the neck region. He has tried so many things like applying Vaseline overnight but the result is zero. Any remedies?

Hi Your friend seems to be having a condition called Acanthosis Nigricans. In this condition, there is a thickening and darkening of skin over the flexural areas of the skin like the neck, underarms, groins etc. In extreme cases, it can also involve face, knuckles and whole body. The most common cause is obesity or excessive weight gain. Familial cases have also been noted. The treatment includes change in diet and exercise to reduce the weight. If the skin does not return to normal then some glycolic acid based creams may help lighten the skin
