My 65-year-old father was diagnosed with
diabetes one and a half years ago, with normal blood test results except for slightly elevated
creatinine (1 mg/dl). He's been on medication since, with well-controlled blood pressure and
sugar levels.
However, his creatinine levels spiked to 1.7 the next year, then 2 the next month before decreasing to 1.9 (which is still high). Despite the diagnosis of Chronic
Kidney Disease (CKD) by our doctor, he seems unconcerned (despite the quick decline in his GFR), advising him to continue his current diet.
Should we be alarmed by this creatinine elevation, given his otherwise controlled health parameters?
And Given the significant decline in kidney function over the past year, is it likely that the deterioration will continue, or is it possible for the kidneys to stabilize at their current level for an extended period?
