Chronic skin allergies
My mother has faced severe reactions on her hands, which look a lot like urticaria/hives but not exactly the same, on her hands for years. Skin becomes darker and there are bumps from within. It becomes very itchy in general all over her body and at that point the these hives like rashes become worse. They are even more itchy and the skin starts tearing up (it looks like burnt skin). It seems like hives and urticaria but it is slightly different with the cracking up skin. She has been avoiding citrus foods, seafoods, mushrooms and egg for a very long time. These rashes get better but then recur. The most affected area is both her hands. Clobenate/clobetasol has been prescribed to her very often and it provides some relief but isn't enough. Please suggest. See attached pictures.

Thanks for the query. This presentation can be seen with many skin diseases. The best option is to consult a Dermatologist in person to understand the problem and get it diagnosed. A proper treatment can then be started. Discuss the situation and hope it will be cleared in few days. Don't delay the appointment. You can use a bland moisturiser till then and OTC anti-allergic medications. It could be an allergic dermatitis or psoriasis from the photographs provided. Dr MK Agarwala
