Cannula multiple attempts?

Can any one do multiple attempts to put cannula for 7 years old kid while he is sleeping? Ideally how many times one should try to insert cannula if unable to find vein?

No one wants to harm any child. Also multiple attempts makes anyone embarassed. So may be the vein was not accessible so doctor had tried for multiple times. It is not a machine that one can put a value that you switch off and switch on the computer 5 times then go to service centre, so no number can be given for attempts.
