Can APCs (Atrial Ectopic) lead to AFib?
Hello Doc, Need a quick help. Got 24 hr holter done and it showed frequent APCs with 7.5% load. No bothering symptoms yet. Should this be treated with medication? If left untreated can this load increase with time and increase the risk for other issues like AFib or so? Note :- 2D echo normal, ECG normal with APC. Please suggest as this is bothering me a bit.

Isolated atrial ectopics are not a precursor for Atrial fib. Predisposing factors like HTN, Diabetes, alcohol, lung disease, thyroid disorders, sleep apnea, obesity need to be checked for. If asymptomatic, isolated apc do not require any medications. If multiple tachycardia runs or symptoms develop, low dose beta blocker should be good enough.
