Doctor, my 6-day-old baby is latching well during breastfeeding, but she's been feeding for about an hour and still seems hungry and fussy. I'm worried that my milk supply might not be enough. I started formula top up right after breast milk as my relative suggested, but I'm unsure if that's the best approach. Is it safe to combine breastfeeding and formula feeding?" Or shall I continue breastfeed her until she's satisfied???

It is okay to formula feed only When you feel it’s absolutely necessary. Ideal feeding time should be around 20-25 minutes. If baby is taking longer and still crying, it could mean low milk supply. Other means to check for milk supply is the weight gain, if adequate urine, if sleeping well between feeds. So you can give formula feeds only after making the baby take direct breast feeds for 15-20 mins or so, and then see if her sleep/ urine/ weight improves.
Health Tips
Do not replace formula feeds with direct feeds during night time. This will affect your milk production. Take plenty of fluids and foods that improve milk production.

If baby is passing urine 6-8 times a day and sleeping for 2-3 hrs after feeding then your feed is adequate.
It's important for you to eat healthy and keep yourself hydrated. Your body has undergone a very stressful process called delivery. Stay away from stress as much as possible. Milk output will increase.
