Breakthrough bleeding

Asked for Female, 26 Years

I started hormonal birth control about 2.5 weeks ago and started having light spotting about 9 days ago. At first, it was brown spotting and very light, and now it's more heavy (wear a pad or tampon) and more bloody/red. Is this cause for concern and am I protected?
