Pain in the joints has nothing to do degrading bone health. Wearing out of cartilage is the most common cause of joint pain in your mom's case. Visit a good ortho surgeon who can examine the knee and prescribe medication. He may ask for x-rays of the knee joints. Mail the xrays to bdbaruah[at]orthodoc[dot]in for a second opinion.
