Blood vessel protruding from toe

For some time now I have had a problem with what looks like a blood vessel growing from the right side of my big toe nail. At first It was relatively small but it continued to grow under my nail and just now I decided to clip the nail because it was getting a little too painful each day after a shower and there it was much bigger than before.
