Blood Culture test
Does taking antibiotic affect the result of blood culture & sensititvity test. patient is having fever over 102-103. We have to take test tomorrow but patient has been given antibiotic already

Hi there. You have to give blood for culture and sensitivity before starting antibiotics as antibiotics might kill the organism and you wil not get any growth or inhibit it's growth in culture due to its presence in blood and again no growth and we cannot discover about the organism and thus diagnosis will be left inconclusive and hence can't treat the fever fully..
