Bleeding when opening bowels

My partner is bleeding when he opened his bowels . It’s fresh blood. Sometimes blood and poo at the same time . He has pain in the anus. He has this for 6 months. I would like some advice because my partner is scared to go see his gp about this . I would like to know what is is and treatment and the risk.
