Binge Eating
I've been hiding this problem for a long time. I also have depression, extreme anxiety and other problems as part of PTSD. Binge eating has sadly become my one comfort and way of letting go and dealing with difficult emotions. It's a vicious cycle where I hate myself and how I look and react by eating again to comfort myself! Extreme isolation and difficultly socialising is a big factor in this. I'm not clinically overweight but feel ill and ugly and want free from this. Please advise.

Hi, binge eating is accompanied by a lot of conflicting emotions. You have some great insights about your problem and that's commendable. I would suggest taking professional help to gain further insight and form an action plan for yourself. For now, you can maintain a thought diary that you can update before and after eating and confront your irrational thoughts based on your observations.. You can also read about more cognitive strategies online. There are various counseling apps available as well. Good luck and I hope you find a way to deal with your problem.

I would suggest you to consult a psychologist for a better understanding about yourself. I think, you need to have some clarity and some belief system has to be changed in you.
Next Steps
Do consult a psychologist either online or offline.

Dear Practo User, I am glad to see that you have an insight on your concern. I suggest you to work on the underlying feeling for this behaviour. Taking a professional help is recomendated. Till then, whenever you get the urge to binge eat, immediately occupy yourself with some work or activity.
