At 1.5 yrs of age the weight is in the normal range but his Hb is low . The most common cause of a low Hb is Iron deficiency anemia for which iron syrup for 4 to 6 months duration along with dietary modifications is the treatment .
However as low Hb may be due to other causes too , a peripheral blood smear(PBS) examination must be done before starting iron therapy . This examination will help us in ascertaining the cause of the low Hb with surety
