Back pain during pregnancy is common because of the extra weight of the baby and water in the gestational sac. She can take meds for back pain that are safe to take during pregnancy such as acetaminophen. But she should have a urine test done, because sometimes a urine infection can cause back pain, in the flank areas. If she has back pain during her pregnancy that is accompanied by vaginal bleeding, fever or burning during urination, contact your doctor immediately.
