Armpit Pain for a month
I have been having left armpit pain and the side too for more than a month. It does subside and suddenly starts off. I did check if I have any hard lumps but couldn't figure out because I'm on the obese side and not able to differentiate if it's a muscle swelling or if there is a swollen lymph node. Experiencing severe pain in the upper arm area. I want to understand if it is cancerous will it be painful, and is there a way to self examine dense armpit how do I do it..I don't see any other changes in my left breast or nipples. I did have a mammogram done 2 years earlier and the reports were normal. Had a chest x-ray done about 4 months back for URTI. Please advise I'm very much worried.

Lesion with pain can be because of anything that is causing an inflammation . Which can be cancerous as well as non cancerous lesions . Most probable cause of painful swelling in armpit , which increase and decrease in size are sebaceous cyst , which are not cancerous , but need treatment with antibiotics or may need removal . Breast self examination is actually suggested by many , but haven’t proven in studies, to have reduced the risk of malignancy . You have to get examined by a doctor , and do a breast mammogram or USG breast scan (since age is less than 40) as indicated. Wound like to know if your are having any other symptoms associated with it , like fever , itching or any discharge . And also need to see exactly at what point you are having this pain , and it’s reliving and exacerbating factors .
