Anxietyandhallucinations
Can high stress and anxiety create simple auditory hallucinations such as distance murmuring of people and a word here or there. I am kindergarden teacher and suffering from anxiety and depression from past 1 year and getting treatment as well (beta cap 40 and prothaiden 25) and I think I have a phobia of schizophrenia due to some article I recently came across. And I have started hearing this distance murmuring 5 to 6 times a day from past week. Please give some positive answer.

Hallucinations can occur in depression too, you need not be schizophrenic to hear voices. However, it seems that the faint mumbling you are hearing is not true hallucinations. Hallucinations are typically clear, distinct and sustained rather than fleeting. Talk to your psychiatrist about it as these voices need further evaluation.
