Mostly whenever you get ortho (braces) treatment done it is advisable to get the impacted/ erupting 3rd molars (wisdom teeth) removed, as the pressure from the last teeth/ wisdom molars can lead to relapse of the ortho treated teeth. Getting the other 4 teeth removed during the ortho procedure was to create space for moving /adjusting your teeth to create better alignment of your malpositioned teeth. The pain/irritation that you are feeling now is from the wisdom tooth (as you have mentioned). Now the wisdom tooth can create irritation because of different reasons, for eg.- 1) the tooth is erupting normally in correct place and it’s just the eruption process causing pain OR 2) the tooth is not able to erupt/ come out properly from the bone into the oral cavity/mouth because there is less space or may be the direction of the tooth isn’t correct OR 3) the erupting tooth is poking into the soft tissues like gums or cheek. Now to confirm which one of these is the problem in your case you need to visit your dentist. He will do an examination of the mouth and might need to take a few X-rays to come to the conclusion. Depending on the situation he will suggest you to either get the tooth removed or to go for recontouring of the soft tissues or to just leave it like this only (if nothing is wrong and the tooth looks promising to come to correct position by natural eruption procedure).
