White spot on tounge

2026-02-20 06:50:53
For quite some time there is a white spot on my tongue which is not visible without a flashlight. I have shown it to the doctor also, he said that this is normal. The doctor said that this can also remain on the tongue, this is normal. I have attached the pictures. Please reply.

If the white spot is only visible with a flashlight, not increasing in size, and not painful, it is usually harmless. It can be a normal variation of the tongue surface, mild frictional change, or simple coating. Since your doctor has already examined it and said it is normal, that is reassuring. You should get it checked again if it increases in size, becomes painful, causes burning sensation, or does not improve for more than 2–3 weeks. Maintain good oral hygiene, clean your tongue gently, drink plenty of water, and avoid tobacco if applicable. If you are still concerned, consult a dentist or oral physician for proper evaluation.

Seek medical attention if the white spots are accompanied by pain, burning, or if they persist for more than two weeks, as they can sometimes indicate more serious issues, including cancer. Maintaining good oral hygiene (brushing, tongue cleaning) is often the first step in resolving these issues.
