Hello. It is quite possible to gain weight in a healthy way just by eating a healthy diet in necessary portions as well as exercising daily or at least five days a week. Exercise helps in better absorption of the food that you eat. So it could help you gain weight if you take food sufficiently. Being underweight does impact fertility to an extent and could make it a high risk pregnancy. It is recommended that you gain enough weight to be in the normal healthy weight zone before planning for pregnancy. You can gain weight by adding some more nutritious food to your current diet. For example, you can have two eggs, 500-750 ml of milk and milk products, handful of nuts like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, cashews etc. Please contact me if you would like a personalized diet chart to meet your needs and help you gain weight. -Dr. Lahari Surapaneni
