If your
vitamin D is low , it’s important to combine sun exposure, dietary changes and possibly supplements.
1. Supplements recommendations :
Choose a vitamin D3 supplement, which is better absorbed than D2
For very low levels (< 10 ng/ mL ) weekly dose 60,000IU for 6-8 weeks under supervision
Note :
Always take vitamin D with a meal containing fat for better absorption
2. Sun exposure:
Best time :
10:00 am -3 pm
Duration:
15-30 minutes daily
Expose :
Face , arms , and legs without sunscreen
3. Vitamin D rich foods :
Vegetarian sources:
Fortified plant based milks , fortified cereals, fortified orange juice
Mushrooms exposed UV light
Paneer or curd ( if fortified)
Non-vegetarians options:
Egg yolks
Fatty fish ( salmon, sardines, mackerel and tuna )
Cod
