Your current
HbA1c of 5.5% and fasting glucose of 115 mg/dL are reassuring and indicate that your blood
sugar is presently very well controlled. However, since you previously had an HbA1c of 11.7% and were diagnosed with type 2
diabetes, these normal results do not mean that the diabetes diagnosis has disappeared.
Your recent symptoms such as frequent urination and nocturia do not necessarily mean that your sugar has become uncontrolled. They can also occur due to urinary infection, increased fluid/caffeine intake, bladder-related problems, or other urinary causes. Foot itching may also be due to a fungal skin infection.
Next Steps
Please repeat laboratory FBS, 2-hour PPBS and
HbA1c, preferably from a standardized laboratory. Also consider urine routine/microscopy and urine culture, especially because of the urinary symptoms.
Kidney function tests can also be checked.
If glucose remains well controlled, continue the diet, exercise and lifestyle measures advised by your doctor. Do not restart or stop
diabetes medication on your own—review the results with your treating physician.
Health Tips
An
HbA1c of 5.5% is an excellent result and is definitely reassuring. However, because of your previous HbA1c of 11.7%, you should continue periodic
diabetes monitoring even if you are currently maintaining normal values without medication.
One important point: if your urinary frequency is significant despite normal glucose, I would specifically advise you not to assume it is from diabetes—I can investigate the urinary symptoms separately
