Sometimes people may walk, talk, or shout during sleep without realizing it; this is called Sleepwalking. It happens when the brain is only partly awake during deep sleep, so the body can move while the mind is still asleep, which is why a person may avoid objects or walk around but have no memory of it the next morning. These episodes can be triggered by lack of sleep, stress, irregular sleep schedules, alcohol, fever, or certain medicines. In most cases it is harmless, especially if no one gets hurt, but it can often be reduced by maintaining regular sleep timings, getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and avoiding alcohol before bedtime. If the episodes become frequent, very loud, or risky, it is better to consult a doctor to rule out other sleep problems such as REM Sleep Behavior Disorder or Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
