Toe nail inner growth infection

2026-02-10 05:14:24
I have a painful infected ingrown toenail on my right big toe. It started as a fungal infection but has progressed to pus and bleeding with severe pain. I am diabetic (HbA1c 7.1) and not currently on medication, so this needs urgent medical care. I am scared about whether it will heal properly and also worried about the pain during and after surgery. I would like to know if the whole nail needs to be removed or only the affected side . Will be it be general surgeon or dermatologst consultancy?

Hello! Firstly, get diabetes under control, or else it would be difficult to treat the infection that’s leading to pus in your case. Secondly, share good quality pictures with proper lighting, so as to better judge the severity.
Next Steps
Consider online consultation for further course and treatment.
Health Tips
Keep in mind proper footwear and care of foot are important for diabetes as well as ingrown toe nail.

Health Tips
Both a General Surgeon or a Dermatologist who is competent and does this surgery can be contacted but surgery is not the only option... please send pics of the problem and treat the infection and check that your Diabetes status is under control first.
