At 1 month after total knee replacement (TKR), it is common to experience pain during knee bending exercises and a burning sensation around the knee, as the tissues are still healing. Mild discomfort that settles within a couple of hours after physiotherapy is usually expected. However, the pain should gradually decrease over the next few weeks. If the burning sensation is severe, associated with increasing swelling, redness, wound discharge, fever, or if the pain is worsening instead of improving, you should be evaluated to rule out infection, nerve irritation, or implant-related issues.
Next Steps
Continue supervised physiotherapy, but avoid excessively forceful knee bending. Follow up with your operating surgeon to assess your range of motion and recovery. If you would like a detailed review, you can book an online consultation with me and share your operative details, current knee photographs, X-rays, and blood test reports (if available) for personalized guidance.
Health Tips
Apply an ice pack for 15–20 minutes after physiotherapy, continue the prescribed medications, and perform exercises regularly without overstraining. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop fever, increasing redness, wound discharge, or severe swelling.
