Yes surgery is the best option for otosclerosis. Like all surgeries there a few risks/complications of stapedectomy. But once surgery is done successfully, the hearing improvement lasts permanently unless a new problem has developed. If you don’t undergo surgery at appropriate time, disease can progress further slowly and thereafter surgery will not help.

For otosclerosis there is no medicine which can reverse the effects, there is some medicines which can slow or somehow arrest the progression of the disease. Only effective treatment is surgery ie stapedotomy which if done in good hands gives very good and long lasting results
