Sounds during massaging masseter muscle

2019-02-03 08:26:18
My treatment is going on for tmj disorder with splint and braces. Day by day i am getting back my normal bite. But whenever I open my mouth or massage my right masseter muscle by pressing upward and inside of my face from externally i listen some popping type sound from  my tight jaw muscles (below ear). Is it harmful to massage jaw muscles(muscles in the side of my cheek) ? If not then what is the right way to massage jaw muscles and what should be the intensity of pressure during massaging?

It is not harmful to massage. Just that you need to be gentle. Intensity of pressure should be mild to moderate. It is a good sign to notice the appearance of normal bite. Make sure you don't open your mouth wide much. Avoid opening big. If the popping sound is causing lot of discomfort....see your dentist
