Last month, my mother suffered with headache and ache all over her legs and MBBS doctor prescribed tablets for this. She has taken these tablets for 2 days and she was unable to sleep then. We went to neurologist and had CT scan brain for headache. No issues found in report and doctor prescribed 2 types of tablet. My mother used these tablets for 1 week and she is telling that she can sleep after taking this but when she wake up, she is feeling depressed, heavy headed and getting suicidal thoughts. She stopped taking these tablets and now she is using Alprazolam 0.25 mg one per night but she can barely sleep for 5 hours and she is worrying if she can get sleep without medication. She don't have this problem earlier and after taking tablets only, she started suffering from this problem. One more thing, she has soft spot on her skull ( dent I guess). Please advise if can visit Psychologist or Neurosurgeon ? The only thing my mother need right now is to sleep peacefully without medicine.

Hi there Firstly it's less likely that some medicine prescribed by a MBBS doctor can further lead to lack of sleep. This lack of sleep is a part of syndromal illness that started over  a period of time. Let us put across the symptoms as follows 1. Heaviness of head/headache 2. Feelings of depression 3. Suicidal thoughts 4. Worry So for these symptoms she surely need to see a psychiatrist (a psychiatrist may further refer to psychologist if there is need of psychological assessment or treatment). Taking alprazolam on own is not at all advised.  Take medication only after consultation. Don't rush to stop medicines. The treatment might be longer than you are expecting.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist for detailed assessment and treatment
Health Tips
It's more important to be healthy and at peace. Duration of treatment is something that can always be discussed as case per case.
