Single umbilical artery

I am currently 19 weeks pregnant. I had my NT scan around 12 weeks, which showed a single umbilical artery (SUA). I was advised to do the NIPT, and thankfully, the NIPT result came back normal with low-risk/low-chance results. I wanted to ask: if the SUA is isolated and the NIPT is normal, is there still any possibility of other problems or abnormalities after birth?

You had your NT scan at 12 weeks. It may be difficult to be 100% sure about single umbilical artery at that stage. The best thing will be to get your sonography done now with a specific request to look for single umbilical artery.

As there are no associated anomalies and as NIPT is low risk, don't worry

Isolated SUA with a normal NIPT is reassuring. Most babies with an isolated single umbilical artery and normal genetic screening go on to have completely normal outcomes, though growth is usually watched a little more closely later on.
Next Steps
Your obstetrician will likely add extra growth scans in the third trimester to track your baby's weight gain, since isolated SUA carries a small added risk of growth restriction.
Health Tips
Please discuss this with your obstetrician, who can confirm no other marker was seen on your scans and plan the right monitoring for you.
