Absolutely wrong. One should take x ray before performing root canal treatment.Because no one knows what's there inside  and around root.Preoperative x ray is mandatory before start of procedure. A big no for starting root canal treatment before starting root canal treatment.

It is completely ok. It is not always necessary to perform Xray Before giving appointment for Root canal treatment. He/she will be taking xray during Root Cannal Treatment.

If the decay is very deep with obvious pulp involvement there is no need to take a xray. Its completely ok to start a root canal in such cases.
